A few things...

(1) To find the above poster idiotic, one need not be a "hardcore lefty," but merely an individual with a modicum of common sense.

(2) To be a "hardcore lefty," one need not be a massive fan of Barack Obama. I voted for him rather than vote for John McCain, but I was not exactly a huge fan of his for most of the campaign, and I take serious issue with many of his policy proposals during his presidential tenure thus far.

(3) Why WOULDN'T I want universal health care? It is in my and everyone else's best interest to have the maximum number of healthy fellow citizens as possible. It makes our cities more livable and pleasant, it makes me more healthy by not having sick people around me all the time, it saves money on expensive emergency room care, it's more humane, it better represents the ideals of community and egalitarianism upon which our country was founded. This notion that it's crazy or evil to expect the government - which is, after all, paid for and owned by the citizenry - to help protect us against circumstances beyond our control is just propaganda...The government is THERE to protect us against circumstances beyond our control. That's the whole point of having one in the first place.

(4) It is completely unfair to look at the first nine months of any presidential administration - but particularly one coming in to a situation as tense and partisan as Obama, and as such a divisive figure - and say "what have you done for me lately." Almost none of Obama's policy proposals or actions thus far were designed to "succeed" in 9 months. Most small businesses don't "succeed" within 9 months, and we're talking about a nation of hundreds of millions of people. This is not a situation analogous to other periods in history, where a president would come in, affect one or two high-profile "changes" and then proclaim "I have changed America for the better!"

I mean, what did you honestly expect in 9 months? We'd all be super-rich? No more dependence of foreign oil ever again? Peace between Israel and Palestine? Free candy for all? It's been less than a year! It's silly to have this conversation until we have some time to see if the stuff he's already done is going to work. Or, you know, we could declare that he's a complete failure and re-elect the warmongers, torturers and other assorted criminals who populated the last administration.

Having said all that, I'd say that my favorite Obama policies are the ones that repeal the most troglodytic Bush-era proposals...His repeal of the restrictions on stem cell research, his opening up of government documents, particularly as they concern interrogation techniques, for public scrutiny (though I'd like to see much much more of this), his restructuring of the EPA to get back to some kind of oversight on things like auto emissions, his appointment of an FCC that supports net neutrality...These are genuine, immediate successes in the midst of an administration that is, thus far, looking ahead several years in its plans.

I'm not saying Obama will definitely be successful in all of his endeavors. But we have not given him a chance yet...it has been 9 months.

First off, I think that's a bit utopic to think that if you suddenly give everyone free health insurance that no one will get sick anymore. The reason why health care can be expensive is because we have the best health care in the world. We do not have 40+ million uninsured. It's more like a couple million that can be easily fixed with no cost. Read this--

Follow that, and those few million will be insured damn near overnight.

Health Care is also not a right. Unfortunately the American public doesn't understand this. You don't have the right to force a doctor to perform surgery on you without charging him/her money.

Finally, the U.S is actually not doing that bad when compared globally with other countries when it comes to health.

I think the biggest failure that this administration has had is the Stimulus Package. They said that if they passed it, unemployment would not go above 8.0%. We are now at 9.7%. Why would this stimulus package work? Giving money to acorn is going to make you more productive at work? Additionally, I foresee a "fits and starts" type of economy, very Jimmy Carter-esque. Once we have to pay back these debts, it's going to kill any recovery. Just look here--

So yes, in this case, it is fair and say that so far, it has failed. 0 for 1.

No, frankly in Obama's America, nobody is super rich. We would all be making the same amount of money, and there would be no "Great American Experiment." We ought to be drilling here and now. By the way, did you hear about this story--

We are loaning them $10 billion. So we pay them to export it to us, but yet we can't get at the same kind of oil find in America.

Also the story in the Gulf of Mexico, where they found a "giant oil field." WHY AREN'T WE DRILLING HERE? Why do we deny ourselves access to our own oil, that will create jobs?

Denying someone dinner is not torture. Putting a spider in the roon is not torture. Ripping off fingernails is torture. Taking a drill and drilling it into someones knee is torture. These policies saved peoples lives. How can you not support that? Barack is now going after those people. That is the kind of stuff that happens in third world banana republic. THAT is how far-left this president is. They deserve a medal, not to be prosecuted. It's proven that it prevented a attack on Los Angeles, and numerous other attacks.

Uh, what about this adminstration? Ever heard of Van Jones? A committed communist. Have you heard about some of these czars? One of them advocated population control and forced abortion.

Obama is not being smart like Clinton and moderating. He's forcing his policies. Talk about partisanship.
